Motor Dynamic Balancing: What the Rotor Magnet Contributes and What to Specify

The rotor magnet sits at the largest radius of anything on a PM motor shaft, so its mass asymmetry, wall thickness variation and mounting concentricity convert straight into residual unbalance. ISO 1940-1 fixes the allowance from balance grade and speed: at G2.5 and 30,000 rpm the permissible residual specific unbalance works out at roughly 0.8 µm of mass eccentricity, and that figure covers the whole rotor, shared between shaft, lamination stack, magnet, adhesive and retention sleeve. Specify the magnet's share of it directly, with numbers for wall thickness variation, coaxiality and cylindricity, and a decision on one-piece against segmented construction. Standard radial-oriented multipole rings are held to ±0.05 mm on dimensions, coaxiality 0.1 and cylindricity 0.04.

Micro Multipole Magnets for Coreless Motors: 8 Poles from Ø6.3 mm

Multipole ring magnets for coreless and slotless micro motor rotors can be magnetized with 8 poles from Ø6.3 mm outer diameter, and the smallest ring diameter available is Ø4.4 mm at 4 poles. Both are magnet outer diameters, and both parts run on the multipole-oriented ring process used below Ø20 mm OD. One-piece sintered micro Halbach cylinders are also produced at this scale, with demonstrated parts at Ø3.3 × Ø1.0 × 8.0 mm in 2 poles and Ø5.3 × Ø1.5 × 15.7 mm in 4 poles. Because a slotless stator has no teeth, the rotor magnet and the winding geometry set the back-EMF waveform on their own, so pole count and magnetization uniformity are settled before grade.

Magnetic Circuit Design for PM Motors: Ring Construction Before Magnet Grade

Work through magnetic circuit design in sequence: geometry and airgap first, magnet construction and orientation second, grade and temperature class third. On identical 10-pole ring geometry (Ø36.6 × Ø29.8 × 17 mm), a one-piece sintered Halbach ring in N45SH measured 629.0 mT peak airgap flux, against 415.7 mT for a conventional radial-oriented ring in the same N45SH grade, a difference of 51% with no change of material. A segmented ring built in the higher N50SH grade reached 521.4 mT, so a full grade step did not close the gap created by orientation. In this benchmark, construction and orientation moved airgap flux and back-EMF waveform more than the grade change did.

Rare Earth Market Update: July 2026 — NdPr Pricing, MOFCOM Licensing, and Western Supply

The Q2 correction is over. NdPr staged a V-shaped recovery through June and printed a new 2026 high of roughly USD 133/kg on the alloy benchmark as of 1 July — above the March peak — while terbium oxide jumped about 30% and dysprosium held near its highs. On the policy side, June was the most active month since April 2025: Beijing entity-listed MP Materials and USA Rare Earth on 22 June, and a new MOFCOM whistleblower mechanism for export-control violations took effect 1 July. The November suspension expiry is now four months out, which makes August the real deadline for Q4 heavy-rare-earth orders.
