What Is N52?

N52 represents the highest commercial BHmax available in sintered NdFeB. It exists for applications where magnet volume is the dominant design constraint and operating temperatures are low. Commonly over-specified — many buyers would be better served by a GBD-processed N48SH that offers similar package performance with vastly better thermal margin.

Where N52 Is Used

N52 is specified across the following application categories. Each links to a full application brief with design requirements and recommended grade combinations.

04

Recommended Coatings for N52

Coating choice is driven by operating environment and assembly method. For N52, the typical options are:

  • NiCuNi
  • Parylene (medical)

See our NdFeB Coatings Guide for a full comparison with salt spray data and decision framework.

Design Considerations When Specifying N52

  • 0165°C maximum operating temperature — this is not a motor magnet.
  • 02If you are specifying N52 for a motor rotor, reconsider — N48SH or N50H with GBD is almost always the correct choice.
  • 03N52 production is concentrated among a small number of qualified factories worldwide — verify supplier capability rather than accepting generic spec sheets.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is N52 NdFeB magnet?

+

N52 represents the highest commercial BHmax available in sintered NdFeB. It exists for applications where magnet volume is the dominant design constraint and operating temperatures are low. Commonly over-specified — many buyers would be better served by a GBD-processed N48SH that offers similar package performance with vastly better thermal margin.

What is the maximum operating temperature of N52?

+

N52 sintered NdFeB is rated for continuous operation up to 65°C. This is the practical upper limit before thermal demagnetization begins to affect performance. For a safety margin, design for a working temperature at least 20–30°C below the maximum rating.

What is the BHmax of N52?

+

N52 delivers an energy product (BHmax) in the range of 48–53 MGOe (382–422 kJ/m³). This is the maximum magnetic energy density the grade can produce, measured according to standard IEC 60404-5 magnetic testing.

What applications use N52 magnets?

+

N52 is typically specified for Medical Devices. The grade's combination of 48–53 MGOe (382–422 kJ/m³) energy product and 65°C maximum service temperature determines its fit for any given motor or actuator design.
